Turnover rises by 8.6 million: LeShop.ch breaks new record in 2013

Tablets and new collection options reinvigorate the market

In its anniversary year of 2013, Swiss online supermarket LeShop.ch enjoyed a surge in turnover of 8.6 million francs, or 6%. The Migros subsidiary sold 158.1 million francs’ worth of groceries, a new record for the company. Around one in every three orders is placed from a mobile device, and one in every six from an iPad.

Switzerland’s largest online supermarket enjoyed uninterrupted growth in 2013, with rising turnover over four consecutive quarters. At year-end it announced an increase in turnover of 6%. Last year, LeShop.ch sold 158.1 million francs’ worth of groceries. 32% – around a third – of all orders were placed from a mobile device. The mobile market is growing fast: at the end of 2012, its share stood at 23%, and in 2011 at just 11%. Tablets are used for around half of mobile orders, making up over a sixth of all orders. Dominique Locher, LeShop.ch CEO, says: “Tablets and smartphones have brought grocery shopping closer to consumers, making the process simpler and quicker. The same goes for the DRIVE and RAIL collection services.”

LeShop.ch expands services

LeShop.ch plans to open another DRIVE location in Staufen, in the canton of Aargau, in the second half of 2014. In the words of Ernst-Dieter Berninghaus, head of the commerce division at Migros, “The ongoing expansion of our services is an important step both for LeShop.ch and for Migros as a whole. A strong online channel complements Migros’ traditional sales channels, and opens up long-term growth prospects in the fiercely competitive retail sector.”
